I don't blog nearly enough, without the internet or a good camera at my apartment, which I moved into last month, I don't take any pictures or post stuff.

I'm feeling entirely unmotivated to do anything with miniatures, hell, anything, right now. I'm not entirely sure why. I think it might be the fact that I realized I was in a 3 month relationship that didn't have any good side to it.
Its time to break out of this rut. I need to start something new and fresh and have it completed. It'd be nice to have a fully painted army 2000 point Warhammer army. I've only once had that, and I cheated and used black as a main color so I didn't really have to paint them that much.
NOT ANYMORE!

I'm thinking necrons, but I want to do something cool with them. I should be getting some 'crons pretty soon, so that should be a fun little experiment.

Citadel Washes pt1

I've had the chance to use some of the new Citadel Washes that are coming out.
This is my review, part one:

I've not used the purple, red or flesh washes, but the green, browns and blue were really good and actually worked how GW has said they would. Suffice to say, I was shocked. I'm working on painting up Epidemius using many more of these washes. They really help to give him a sickly look off of the white undercoat. I painted up a reaper model as well using the washes to bring the model together. The Devlin Mud wash really works to make greens look like they are dirty and used.

Overall, with what I've done so far, I'm really happy with how the new washes work and will definitely be picking up a set when they come out, though I'll also be picking up a few choice inks, which I reccommend becaues those are being discontinued for the washes. And there are just some things that a wash cannot accomplish that the inks can.

Daemons of Chaos, first game

So, Alan and I played a 2000 point game of Daemons vs High Elves. He was using his "caledor list"

This was:
Archmage on Moon Dragon
Dragon Mage
15 white lions
2x15 spearelves
6 Dragon Princes
1 Bolt thrower

I decided to try out (proxying) a pure Slaanesh force.

I ran
Daemon Prince (lvl 2)
Mounted Herald (lvl 1)
Herald BSB (lvl 1)
Herald (lvl 1)
2x25 Daemonettes
10 Daemonettes
5 Seekers of Slaanesh

My strategy was to go up the center/left flank of the board while my seekers reeked havoc from behind his lines. They moved up quick and subsequently got into combat with his archmage on the dragon. I managed to kill his archmage but it was the dragon that whittled down the unit with combat res, as he had the flank and outnumber.
On the left side of the board, I was utterly destroying his Dragon Princes, bad rolling on his part meant that he only killed one of my daemonettes out of a unit of 25. I killed 3 of his in the next combat making him run and running him down. I then destroyed a unit of 10 spearmen, then a second unit of 10 spearmen, before hitting the bolt thrower and destroying that.
In the center of the board white lions destroyed my other unit of daemonettes, but they still put up a fight, taking out 5 models and a dragon on their way.

You'll notice the Daemon prince wasn't mentioned. This is because he died on turn 2. All he did was get off the lore of Slaanesh spell that makes all enemies roll 3d6 for leadership. This really screwed up the High Elf plans of charging when they couldn't pass their fear test!

One unit was made stupid which also hindered it quite a bit and both dragons were rendered stupid after their riders died. Overall, it was a good game. It turned out to be a draw in my favor and I learned a lot.

Things I learned:
Daemon Princes are not worth it as a lord choice.
Always always always, if you have a unit of daemons, put in the herald for that unit.
Pure god armies may be thematic and neat looking, but they won't have the staying power of a mixed list. (the example I thought of is my S3 Daemonettes hitting a Brettonian or Empire knight line. There would be nothing I could do against the 1+ and 2+ armor saves, regardless of if I went first.)
Khorne and Slaanesh seems to be the way to go on ability and on cost.

I'm going to be looking at getting some more games in and seeing how they go, running a mixed Khorne and Slaanesh list as well as starting to build and paint the daemon models I have.

So, I'm finally getting that work done on the Tyranid commission. Had to go out and find the Minwax wood stuff. Home Depot has it. Lowes did not. I think that it came out well, spraycoat of white primer, mechrite red (foundation), and Iyanded darksun (foundation) were the only other colors used, except for a dot of black in the eyes. The base was just a mix of some greens and light browns as it is going to be mostly covered in grass and rocks anyways. Well, enjoy the pictures:

Dwarf Slayer: It was a fun model to paint, the skin has six layers of skin highlight, the axe has 3 layers of highlight. He is blind in his left eye, thus why it is white. Slays Slaanesh daemons.

Ogre Bull: First of 6 completed, hoping to paint them up and sell them off as mercenary type Ogres. Many layers of flesh highlights and mixing.

The Dwarf Engineer, I suppose I could run him as a Master Engineer if I ever wanted to waste a Hero slot. Still a great model to paint.
The Dwarf Engineer was pretty easy to paint in two parts, backpack and him.
The unit of warriors with great weapons, I often run these bad boys as longbeards, it makes them a whopping S6 all the time! With a runic banner, they can lose combat but still win!
The front side of the Dwarf Runesmith, he follows the same basic formula as the rest of my Dwarf army at the time (blue primarily).
Other side of the Dwarf Runesmith, I really enjoyed painting this model. He did manage to get a little bit of red on his overcoat to seperate him from the masses.

One of the crewman for the war machines, he is usually set up with the organ gun. Note the dashes for how many orcs he has killed thus far.
Dwarf Mullet. Let me repeat that. Dwarf Mullet.
This bad boy has his engineer mask up, and his clipboard has math equations and what not to have his cannon do (it is an explosion with a red crossed out circle over it).
This guy is totally just rocking being a regular crewman, also his hair was painted using the new GW foundation paints as the base. Amazing.

This is from my tutorial I decided to do over on Warseer:

"Hey, you're doing Dwarfs as your next army? Well, I bought the BfSP, but I'm not using the Dwarfs from it, you can have them in exchange for _______. Thanks!"

Does this sound like something that happened to you? Are you suddenly in possession of enough BfSP Thanes to field all of your Lords and Thanes in a 2000 point list as the same model?

If the answer to those two questions is yes, I may be able to help you, even if you suck at converting (like I do). So keep reading, even if you are just curious as to the outcome of my mad tinkering.

This is by no means a finished project, I have found a few minor errors after viewing all of the pictures that I will need to go back and fix up with green stuff. But for now, the project is sans green stuff.

So this is what we have, the BfSP Thane. Pretty simple, open to some easy conversions...
So, we cut off his axe and the bottom part (in retrospect, I should have left this on, as I ended up reattaching it later in a slightly different manner.

We drill into the hand (not through the hand), and put in some copper wire/brass rod/anything that will work as a staff. I have attached a lantern from a BfSP miner standard bearer.
I'm new to this tutorial thing, so I didn't take a lot of good, if any, pictures for this part. I got too into the model. But basically, we have cut off the horns, added some more random runes to the staff (basically all cut from standard bearers and taken from warrior sprues). The topmost part of the BfSP Thunderers' banner is added to the front of his helmet, to set him apart from other models. And finally, a part I have to fix up, I decided to give him a runic eyepatch, so I just have to go over this with some green stuff to make it look like an eyepatch. I added the handle of an axe from the Dwarf Thunderer Boxed set to represent him having a Great Weapon/Runic Weapon, and there ya go, all he needs is a neat scenic base and he is ready to be painted.

It is time for a small update to tide you all over while I go to Georgia for my cousin's weddin. I might just have grits, sweetTEA, and some french fried pertaters. Anyways, this is some superhero miniatures for the SuperFigs gaming system.

The Spanish Skull in back, a master at appearing in the right place at just the right time. He is also the leader of The Destroyers of Humanity. Romulus Alpha, his number two wears a green powerfist that gives him intense and powerful psychic powers including telekinesis and a super powerful mind.
Dr. Nucleus, the size changing madman who is on the side of The Destroyers of Humanity. His belt gives him the power to drastically alter the size of his body, as well as his strength, regeneration and vitality.
The S.W.A.T.T. (Super Weapon Attack Tactical Team) squad, part of the Coalition for Righteousness. They have a medic, and the ability to throw grenades, and also to set their guns to full auto. They are led by Commandress, who is featured in back. She can create powerful force-fields and occasionally turn the tide of battle with her high leadership.
Desert Storm is the powerhouse for the Coalition of Righteousness. A Persian Gulf war veteran, he was the product of not only intense training, but 'safe' steroid use by the government. After making it his personal agenda to destroy the British government. Before he went through with it, he was contacted by Commandress to join the Coalition. He accepted, and has since used his super strength to fight evil and his intelligence to lead rallies against the secret testing that was done before.

And now, without further adieu, I present the Dwarfs of the Worlds Edge Mountains... Started these bad boys a while ago, but finished up the skull pass box set (sans miners, they aren't in my tournament army).

Here, we have the Dragon Slayer, or alternatively, the Daemon Slayer, I really love how this model turned out, I love the pose, and I love the paint job that I gave him.

This is the backside of the slayer. I only wish that one day I can attain a beard long enough to cover my junk, so I would no longer have to be burdened by pants.
The Dwarf Cannon and crew, I am also really happy with the way these guys came out. Their bases are a bit hard to see, but that is how I am doing the whole army, it is sort of comic-ish, but it looks great, and they were the first to get it done.

These would be the Dwarf Warriors in all their glory. I went with yellow beards on them, the musician is supposed to look younger, and the standard bearer look older than the rest. The unit Veteran has dyed his beard red. It is part of my armies theme, also, to tell them apart.
These bad boys are the Dwarf Thunderers, they have brown beards, once again, the musician is supposed to look younger, the standard bearer look older, and the unit Veteran has a red beard. See a theme there? I'm fairly happy with them, but not as happy with the guns as I could be.
The Dwarf Thane, truly, he came out amazingly, as an army Veteran, he too has a red beard, also, I like red beards. This model came out beautifully.
Thane from the side, here you can see the axe, glove, and part of the cape.

Thane from behind, here you can see the expert (read: lucky) shading quality done on the cape, it is scorched brown, building up through bestial brown, snake bite leather, and finally ending with a snakebite leather+skull white mix. The fur on the edge has been dyed blue to help unify him with the army.
The entire painted force of Dwarfs, the most models I have ever had painted, I can field around 750 points all painted!My current project for the next Dwarf warrior unit, their banner, working in blues, as that is the armies color. I decided to paint the banner separate to make it a bit easier for me. Shields are also being painted separately and then added later.

There is quite a bit to paint before the team tournament April 29th, but I think I am up to the challenge I have laid out for myself. I am so far really enjoying painting these models. I still have 1 cannon to build, 1 unit of Quarrelers (maybe), around 6 more Thunderers to add to the existing unit to build, a unit of 20 great weapon dwarfs (banner pictured above), and a runesmith/lord to paint.

Dwarfs: part duex

Allow me to begin, my name is MC Menses and my flow, it be fresh... (damn freestyling on the schoolbus)...

Today marks the late finish of my Dwarf Warriors. 12 of them.The unit has yellow beards, except for the veteran. The beard started with a black undercoat, blazing orange highlight on that, finishing with golden yellow highlights on top of that.

This is the veteran, standard bearer and just a regular warrior. I painted the standard bearer's beard and hair black base, with codex gray highlights, then golden yellow highlights with a final skull white highlight. I wanted him to look older than the rest of the unit, like he has been the standard bearer for a long time.

The veteran, with musician and standard bearer on each side. I painted his hair and beard black base, with red gore leading to blood red highlights, I just liked the look of a red beard, and think it fits to pick him out of the unit as the veteran.

This is of course, the musician, with a regular warrior and the veteran next to him. On his beard I attempted to make him look younger, starting with a black base, and then adding, red, or something, then putting a couple highlights of golden yellow on top. His cheeks actually have a careful blending of blood red and dwarf flesh to make it look like he is actually puffing his cheeks out to blow the horn.
